It’s that time again with the playoffs progressing, weekly awards being announced and other news coming out.
The Everett Silvertips’ Landon DuPont received WHL Player of the Week honors. It’s the third time DuPont has been named Player of the Week, in addition to two Rookie of the Week wins and a pair of monthly honors. He led Everett with one goal and three assists for four points and a plus-3 rating in two games as the Silvertips claimed two overtime victories against the Portland Winterhawks in their second round playoff series.
Lethbridge Hurricanes goaltender Jackson Unger received WHL goaltender of the week honors. The veteran led all WHL goaltenders with a 2-0-0-0 record, a 0.50 goals-against average, a stellar .985 save percentage and one shutout as his Hurricanes jumped out to a 2-0 series lead against the Calgary Hitmen.
The Prince Alberts Raiders’ Daxon Rudolph received WHL Rookie of the Week honors. It’s the second time the 17-year-old has picked up the weekly award, in addition to a WHL Rookie of the Month win in January. He led all WHL skaters in points with one goal and four assists, as well as a plus-4 rating, in three games. Rudolph’s Raiders defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings in seven games in the first round to advance to face the Medicine Hat Tigers in round two. He’s eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft.

On Tuesday it was announced that a total of 170 CHL players were included in the final 2025 NHL Draft rankings. Of those 170 players, the WHL led the way with 67 players were including 58 skaters and nine goaltenders. The OHL came in second with 64 players including 57 skaters and seven goaltenders. The QMJHL checked in with 39 players including 33 skaters and six goaltenders. In total it adds up to 148 skaters and 22 goaltenders.
Those numbers will only increase with the expansion in the WHL with Penticton next season and Chilliwack the following season.
In WHL news, Hockey Canada has added Vancouver Giants forward Cameron Schmidt to its U18 World Championships pre-tournament camp roster. Vancouver goaltender Burke Hood and defenseman Ryan Lin were named to the preliminary roster on Saturday.
Last Thursday, finalists for the WHL’s Four Broncos Memorial Trophy were announced. Three players each from the Western and Eastern Conferences were selected. The Eastern Conference nominees are Gavin McKenna from the Medicine Hat Tigers, Oliver Tulk from the Calgary Hitmen and Max Hildebrand from the Prince Albert Raiders. The Western Conference nominees are Andrew Cristall from the Spokane Chiefs, Berkly Catton from the Spokane Chiefs and Kyle Chyzowski from the Portland Winterhawks.
Some OHL news saw Former Soo Greyhounds defenseman Kirill Kudryavtsev make his NHL debut with the Vancouver Canucks Monday. He previously spent time with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks. Another debut Monday night saw Edmonton Oil Kings alum Matthew Robertson suit up for the New York Rangers.
Last Friday it was announced that former OHL Flint Firebirds’ defenseman Blake Smith had signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He previously went undrafted. He had his best season in 2024-25 with a career high 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points across 64 games while he posted a +15 rating.
