It’s a new week in major junior hockey and there has been a bit of news throughout the WHL with a handful of trades. The regular Canadian Hockey League (CHL) top 10 rankings have come out as well.
Following the retirement of forward Ty Fraser, the Wenatchee Wild looked to make some changes with their roster to prepare for the rest of the season.
On Thursday, Oct. 31 the Wild made two deals with Eastern Conference teams, the Edmonton Oil Kings and Regina Pats. They acquired 2005-born defenseman Eastyn Mannix from the Oil Kings in exchange for an eighth-round selection in the 2028 WHL Prospects Draft. Mannix is in his third full season of WHL competition. He has 70 games under his belt for Edmonton and the Brandon Wheat Kings.
In their deal with Regina, the Wild acquired an eighth-round selection in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft in exchange for the rights to 2007-born forward Jace Egland.
Then on Saturday, Nov. 2 the Wild and Victoria Royals traded forwards as Hayden Moore is now on the Royals and Deagan McMillan is now a member of the Wild. Wenatchee also acquired a seventh-round selection in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. McMillan returns to the U.S. Division after appearing in 170 games with the Tri-City Americans and notching 90 points, including 36 goals. He was a second-round draft selection of the Americans in 2020, he is in his fourth full season of WHL competition.
Going into Friday night’s game against the Red Deer Rebels as they continue their five game homestand, the Wild sit ninth in the Western Conference at 5-9-2-0. In the US Division they sit fifth out of six. They’ve had to deal with a lot over the past couple of seasons since the move from Winnipeg, Manitoba where they were known as the ICE. Because of this it should be expected that it’ll take a little time to turn into a true contender. The WHL is a loaded conference with every game being a battle.
In the weekly, CHL top 10 rankings, the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and Ontario Hockey League (OHL) both led the way with four teams each. That left the Western Hockey League (WHL) with two teams.
In the QMJHL, the Moncton Wildcats checked in at one, Drummondville Voltigeurs at two, Rimouski Oceanic at eight and the Chicoutimi Saguenéens at 10. In the OHL, the Windsor Spitfires checked in at three, London Knights at four, Kitchener Rangers at seven and the Niagara IceDogs at nine. The WHL saw Everett Silvertips check in at five and the Prince George Cougars at six.
Moncton sits at the top spot as they’re currently on a six-game point streak (5-0-1-0). Kitchener is currently in the middle of the longest point streak in the CHL at 14 games (12-0-1-1). Chicoutimi made the rankings as they’re currently on a six-game winning streak. Drummondville moved up one spot this week as they’re just one of three teams with a CHL best, 13 wins so far this season.
